Today was cold, damp, and foggy! We started the day late again, it was around 35 degrees when we woke up and we’re hoping it would warm up a little before we started the ride. It warmed up a little but by the time we left around 11 but it was still really cold, the air had a lot of moisture so it was hard to stay dry. The first ten miles was downhill with a few small uphills and was overall fairly easy. At this point though my toes were freezing because of CRPS and my surgeries I don’t have great circulation. It was really hard to keep the toes warm. To keep my feet warm I had two pair of sock with a plastic bag in between them to keep the wind out. The last ten mile of the ride continues to be fairly easy, although it started raining and started getting really foggy. Eventually the dog got really dense and it was super difficult for cars to see us. We decided it was to dangerous to ride and decided to finish the ride tomorrow. Although it was a bummer to not ride we did some really cool things in Alpine, we went to a fantastic bakery and warmed up, we went to the Museum of the Big Bend and went to a locals bar. We met somebody really nice locals and had a great time. Hopefully tomorrow it is warmer and the fog is gone, we all want to get back riding!

You are so brave. We cycled yesterday from Sierra Blanco to Van Horn, it was freezing and we had a super cold headwind all the way. My whole body was aching when we got here, so we are staying a couple of days to stay warm and let my body rest. We are going to drive to Del Rio, leaving Monday, so maybe we'll catch you up and say hi again. I hope so. Stay warm and safe.

Yeah it was so cold!! Yeah I think rest days are really smart the cold is honestly horrible, I couldn’t imagine doing this with out our car to keep us warm. Yes, I would love to see you guys again, we should definetly try to meet up! You as well! ❤️

Tatum, I thought about your journey as you passed through Alpine and headed toward Marathon and on towards Del Rio. Thought about how you have traveled from California, biked all the way to Texas and will continue to Florida, and it reminded me of all journeys... Percistance wins in all journeys. You will learn as you go to college next year that college is not about can you make the grades, its about knowing that college is a 4 year journey and that you have to be in for the long-haul to make it. In other words, you have to persist; to know that it's the long game, no different than your trek across America. That every day is just one day in a very long Journey. When you understand this, there is nothing that you can not accomplish. Keep on with your journey across America and keep on with your journey in life.
